Frequently Asked Questions

How do I upload my own book?
Tap the upload button on the home screen. You can import PDFs, EPUBs, paste text, or enter a URL. Your files are processed in memory and never stored on our servers.

How does audio work?
Tap "Listen" on any book to generate HD audio narration. The first play takes 15-30 seconds to generate; after that, it's instant. Audio works with background playback, CarPlay, and AirPods.

What are the three depth levels?
Flash (~2 min) gives you the core thesis. Deep (~15 min) is a chapter-by-chapter breakdown. Master (~30-45 min) is a comprehensive knowledge transfer with exercises and counterarguments.

Do I need an account?
No. OpenShelf works without accounts. Your progress syncs using your device identifier.

How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → OpenShelf → Cancel. You'll retain access until the end of your billing period.

How do I restore my purchases?
Open the app → Settings → Restore Purchases. This will restore any active subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.

Is my uploaded content private?
Yes. Source files are never stored. We only cache generated summaries (matched via content fingerprinting) so future users don't have to wait for regeneration.
